John Waterhouse was an English painter known for embracing the Pre-Raphaelite painting style and ancient Greek mythology subject matter.
According to legend Adonis the Greek god of beauty, desire, and rebirth, would tragically die while hunting. Aphrodite (Venus to the Romans) would rush to his side, cutting herself on a thorn from a rose bush. The rose, a symbol of Aphrodite, created pure, and white was now a brilliant crimson shade of red, stained by her blood. A kiss from the goddess Aphrodite would awaken Adonis; thus, the circle of life would continue.
This romantic scent is both opulent and timeless. Argos ADONIS AWAKENS opens with Bright Bergamot, Grapefruit, and Pink Peppercorn. It transitions beautifully into a bouquet of Bulgarian Rose, Sambac Jasmine, Creamy Vanilla, Chestnut, and Juicy Raspberry. The brief was a single word — graphite. Our perfumer worked from a Haitian vetiver harvested in the Les Cayes plain, where volcanic soil yields an oil that is earthier and less green than its Javanese counterpart.
